Easy Resolutions

The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.  --Bertrand Russell

I have two resolutions this year.  Yes, I know I've said that I don't resolve...or at least I don't resolve beyond my standard:
 Make new mistakes this year.
At which I've been spectacularly successful for umpty years.

But I'm adding this for 2012:
Be open to everyday beauty.
Last year, Ruby-throated and Black-chinned hummingbirds migrated through our Texas Hill Country in August and September.

Then a handful of Rufous hummingbirds showed up at the end of September. And never flew out, making 2011 our hummingbirdiest year, 11 months of visitation (we also hosted a hardy Rufous for last year's frigid January).

Now tiny copper-colored birds sip morning nectar at the feeder while we sip coffee at the kitchen table by the window.

I'm thinking my new resolution is going to be easy to keep.

  1. All the photos are marvelous, but the first is a real stunner.

    Well done.

  2. Those are two good resolutions. Do you have any hummingbirds hanging out this winter? Happy New Year to you and Denny!

  3. I like your new resolution. I think I can do that too. Love your hummers. Dorothy at Gardening with Nature has a Rufous hummingbird overwintering in her Houston area garden.

  4. Well, here you are! I had trouble getting to your blog for some reason over the past few weeks, and it isn't moving up my blogroll. I hope that you're well!

  5. Hi Kathleen,
wonderful photos! And I like your resolutions. Two of mine, and I hope I'll really be able to carry them out:
    (1) less time on computer
    (2) more time in garden and on my bicycle
    Best regards,

  6. I thought of this immediately when I started reading your post:
The world is so full of a number of things,
I ’m sure we should all be as happy as kings.

  7. These are so cute! You just reminded me that we spent a crazy amount of time at the Sonora Caverns last year taking pics and videos of these cute little hummingbirds. Still need to upload them myself. Yours are really cool!

My readers are all geniuses. Can't wait to see what you have to say.
